Dr. Raja served as the instructional leader and director of the CREATE Academy at Grant High School, that uplifted hundreds of students who were at risk of dropping out of high school. The success that students experienced as a result of being a part of the CREATE Academy at Grant High was also the subject of numerous statewide and national conferences on improving urban student achievement and addressing the dropout crisis. The CREATE Academy model was also highlighted in a recent documentary, “Solving the Inequality,” produced by Xpose the Gap. As an administrator at Grant High School, Dr. Raja helped to create systems of early academic, instructional and socio-emotional intervention for every student and staff member. These systems at Grant High led to a significant improvement in quality of instruction, increase in percent of students A-G eligible, decrease in students’ failure rates in teacher’s classrooms, decrease in suspension rates, and an improvement in students’ attendance. Moreover, as a bilingual administrator at Grant, Dr. Raja helped to significant increase parent involvement and engagement by coordinating numerous parent workshops and ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) events.
